Player Information

What is the AYSO Kid Zone?

Kids Zone means just what the sign says...the game is for the kids and not the adults. Everyone just needs to remember and follow these simple guidelines when attending an AYSO-sponsored event.

Kids are #1
Fun, not winning, is everything.
Fans only cheer and only coaches coach.
No yelling in anger.
Respect the volunteer referees.
No swearing.
No smoking.
Leave no trash behind.
Set a proper example for our children.

Health and Safety

All players, coaches, referees and parents are responsible for the safety of all AYSO soccer participants. Safety First
is the motto that everyone must learn to live by.

Goal Safety
Players should never climb or swing on goals or nets. Goals can fall over and cause injury or death.

Hydration
Players (and other volunteers too!) should drink lots of liquids BEFORE starting a practice session or game, preferably the night before.
If a player is already thirsty when play begins, they are already behind on hydration and may become dehydrated quickly,
especially on very hot, humid days. Water and sports drinks are best to replenish bodily fluids and much needed nutrients.

Jewelry and Watches
All players must remove any jewelry, watches, etc. before the start of game. This is to prevent injury to that player
or other players in the game. [More info]

Proper Equipment
Players must wear the proper field shoes (with or without grass cleats) and shin guards at all times. Shin guards
are to be worn next to the players skin and then covered with soccer-style socks that completely cover the entire
shin guard. Players should also use an age-appropriate sized ball to prevent injuries. [More info]

Illness or Injury
All AYSO or non-AYSO injuries or extended illnesses (greater than 2 weeks) must be reported to the Safety Director through your coach. This is to ensure that all players are healthy and eligible to play soccer.

Soccer Accident Insurance
All registered players, coaches, assistant coaches, referees, and volunteers are covered by soccer accident insurance.

VIP Program

The AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer experience for children and adults whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams. VIP teams may include:

Blind or visually impaired

Amputees or with conditions that impair mobility

Mentally or emotionally challenged

Autistic

Down syndrome

Cerebral Palsy
These players are Very Important Players (VIP) in AYSO. We recognize that all people need to feel a sense of belonging and acceptance. The VIP program offers that acceptance and carries our philosophy of Everyone Plays® to new heights - giving everyone a chance to play.

PROGRAM GOALS
Kids with special needs are estimated to make up approximately 10% of the school-aged population and approximiately 20% of the United States population has special needs.   Special schools and programs can isolate these persons, so the VIP Program has been structured to integrate our players into the rest of AYSO by providing a soccer season, and in some cases, using "buddies" - able bodied helpers - to assist players who need assistance, both on and off the field. Our goals for every participating player are:

have fun playing soccer

understand the fundamentals of the game

learn teamwork and fair play

increase positive self-esteem

become more physically fit

meet and be comfortable with new people

EVERYONE PLAYS
VIP helps more than just the players. Buddies and other volunteers increase their appreciation and understanding of individuals with special needs. They find their lives greatly enriched by their involvement with their new VIP friends. For parents thinking they would never see their children playing a sport or making new friends, VIP gives them joy and hope. They are able to relax and enjoy watching their children having fun like other kids, perhaps for the first time.
Teams can have as few as three players and may be co-ed. VIP teams can be put together with the players who register based on mobility or ability. Older and younger players can also be separated onto different teams when numbers allow.

Board of Directors

The board of directors who are all volunteers, set the standards for the region and ensure a fun and safe
season for the children while ascribing to the AYSO philosophies.
